Seymour Tradition 10U finished off a great weekend by stopping the Long Island Crush, 7-3, in the championship game to take home first place trophies in the Valley Fusion Spring Fling. For the last two years, our 10U teams had been showing tremendous improvement including a few second place finishes. This time, the talented bunch of 9 & 10 year olds was not to be denied.
They opened pool play by edging the host team, Valley Fusion 6-5 in a tight one. Next up, Tradition knocked off the Shoreline Sting, 7-3 and then whitewashed the Empire State Huskies, 7-0.
Championship Sunday produced a game for the ages between Tradition and a heavy hitting Team Long Island. Tradition came back from an 8-7 deficit to tie things up in the bottom of the 6th inning only to seemingly be eliminated when Team Long Island went ahead 12-8 in the top of the 7th inning. Showing resilience and a "never give up” attitude, Tradition came back with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. After holding Team Long Island scoreless in the top of the 8th, Tradition scratched out a run to win a heart stopper. After a brief respite, Tradition run ruled the strong Cheshire Wildcats, 11-2 and then put away Long Island Crush, 7-3, in the tournament finale.
In the words of Coach Matt, It was a total team effort including clutch base hits, sterling defensive gems, heads up base running and strong, gutty pitching performances.
Our "Tradition of Excellence” was on display at Pent Road Complex and this team will not be taken lightly in the future.
